August 24-25, 2012: Speaking of Gardening
The North Carolina Arboretum proudly hosts the Speaking of Gardening Symposium bringing the world’s gardens to Asheville. This popular event for horticulture professionals and enthusiasts, provides an unparalleled experience for participants. Feature speakers from the United States and the United Kingdom present lectures on creative design and cutting-edge plants. Seven lectures are scheduled, as well as book signings and live and silent plant auctions showcasing rare and unusual plants.
Speakers to appear at the Speaking of Gardening symposium include:
Mike Buffin, Keynote Speaker
As Gardens and Parks Adviser for the National Trust, United Kingdom, Buffin provides technical advice for historic gardens and parks in London, Southeast England, and Northern Ireland. His garden portfolio includes some of the Trust’s most treasured garden properties, including Sissinghurst, Nymans, Sheffield Park, Cliveden, and Chartwell. Buffin’s experience includes training at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, as well as experience at the Morris Arboretum in Philadelphia and more than 10 years as curator at Hillier Gardens in Hampshire. He is Chair of the Plant Conservation Committee of Plant Heritage, the United Kingdom’s largest cultivated plant conservation organization. Among Buffin’s published works are Winter Flowering Shrubs and The Illustrated Guide to Trees.

Registration for the symposium is $145 for Arboretum members and $170 for non-members. The fee includes lectures, book signings, lunches and snacks for both days.
