Biltmore Festival of Flowers Tulips

April 7-May 20, 2012
Gorgeous blooms will be in full glory as 100,000 tulips welcome springtime during Biltmore’s 27th annual Festival of Flowers. The estate-wide event celebrates the beauty of George Vanderbilt’s 8,000-acre property and its original design by Frederick Law Olmsted, father of American landscape architecture. Tulips will mark the beginning of the festival by greeting visitors at Biltmore’s main entrance and continuing to the stunning colors in the Walled Garden and elsewhere around the estate. Guests won’t want to miss the vibrant colors in the 20-acre azalea garden and cascades of native and exotic blooms in the natural gardens and along the walking trails.

Festival of Flowers, Biltmore

A meadow of white, purple, pink, yellow and red tulips will grace the estate’s entrance. Tulips in the Walled Garden will shine in hues of purple, orange, yellow and white. Mid-festival will feature lavender shades of alyssum, orange snapdragons, poppies, dianthus and digitalis for a rainbow-colored finish in the Walled Garden.

New Exhibit Opening April 7, 2012
The Vanderbilts at Home and Abroad special exhibit features never-before-seen treasures from the Vanderbilt collection, This new display focuses on the lives and personalities of George, Edith and Cornelia Vanderbilt, taking center stage in Antler Hill Village’s Legacy building. Enjoy a close-up look at exotic and rare items they collected throughout their lives, including an extraordinary collection of Samurai armor and an intricate Cartier vanity and lipstick case encrusted with diamonds and jade. An early Harley-Davidson motorcycle representing the Vanderbilt’s love of motorized transportation will be displayed. The fascinating story of the fateful decision that saved the Vanderbilts from perishing on Titanic will also be told. Read more!

Annual Easter Egg Hunt
On April 8, the Easter Rabbit makes his annual appearance on Biltmore’s Front Lawn on Easter Sunday, along with special children’s entertainment including magic shows, music, storytelling, crafts and photos with the Easter Rabbit. Highlighting the day are the grand Easter Egg Hunts at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Children ages 9 years old and younger may attend the hunt for free when accompanied by an estate passholder or a ticketed adult. Day-of registration will be required.

Additional Festival of Flowers activities include:

  • Live music daily in the Conservatory and Winter Garden in Biltmore House
  • “Ask a Gardener” station featuring Biltmore’s horticulture experts answering guest questions.
  • Daily seminars in A Gardener’s Place in the Conservatory.
